In the park, under the sun,
kids and Shakespeare mean fun.

And when the kids are not in the park, they are finding Shakespeare in school can be cool…

“To be or not to be”

To teach Shakespeare to kids or not to teach Shakespeare to kids, that is the question…

“Awhile to work, and after holiday.” . . . King Richard II: III, i

On April 30th, the San Diego Shakespeare Society hosted its sixth annual Student Shakespeare Festival. The event welcomed over 300 K-12 students who performed 10-minute segments of a play on five stages throughout San Diego’s Balboa Park.

Bringing Shakespeare out of the classroom and out of the theatre makes for a lively atmosphere.”Babies crying, people playing musical instruments, things that in a regular theatre we would think of as distracting elements, it’s all there in Balboa Park,” high school teacher Monica Hall told KPBS. http://www.sandiegoshakespearesociety.org/festival.html
The Student Shakespeare Festival is held on various open-air stages in beautiful Balboa Park, in the pedestrian friendly Casa Del Prado area. Hundreds of students from K-12 representing San Diego City and County schools, perform 10-minute scenes, sonnets, music,and/or dance from Shakespeare’s plays. Truly a sight to behold and enjoyed by thousands of spectators and proud family members!
